It's the story...of a lovely lady!

That's right, as always, it begins with a story. As this will be a way to post our house's progress, here's the story.

In July 2004, my wife Julie and I bought a lot from a builder. We took one of their designs, modified the upstairs and changed the dimensions. The houses on our side of the street are all 100 ft. away from the curb. Unfortunately for us, that is the only spot that our lot perked. We thought we would have to either have our septic in the front yard or sell the lot.

We met with Lehigh Engineering Associates and came up with an excellent solution, which allowed us to put our house in the front of the septic system, only 64 feet from the curb. It was and is still our only option.

So, for a time, we were happy. We had our septic and building permits by December and by January 15th, we settled on a mortgage and waited for the winter weather to leave. Recently, the weather has been excellent, so the lot has been staked out. The neighbor to our right is upset because our house is not at the 100 ft. the others are. My wife tried explaining this to him, but he is still upset, so we went and examined the stakeout.

We had no problem with the position of the house at its (at the time) 55 ft. away from the curb, but the house was only 20 ft. from the neighbor's property line, which seemed way too close. Thanks to another long night with Lehigh Engineering, we've reveresed our house plans and moved it over to the left another 17 ft! We couldn't previously move it left because our lot starts a cul-de-sac. To move it left meant moving it back, and we just didn't have the room with the septic tank behind the house. By reversing the house, we have put the garage, which sticks out, on the other side, allowing it to move left. Got it? Good.

Anyway, they are staking out the lot today and Julie and I will be going up to take a peek tonight.
